Terms and conditions
How does it work
You'd like your pet or favorite animal painted by me? That's such an honour! So let's get started.
You can contact me through email or message me on Facebook or Instagram. Tell me which size you'd like the painting to be and I'll give you a price indication. When we both agree I will send you an invoice of 50% of the price (excl. shipping) as a deposit. After payment is done and got good photo material of the subject I'll start sketching! (I prefer for the whole sum to be paid at once beforehand, if this fits you please let me know)
Before I can start sketching, I'll need some clear and sharp pictures of your pet. See the imagery tab below for the required conditions for your pictures. When I decide they are good enough I'll digitally sketch the rough outline and details for the painting. You'll be able to alter some minor details and when you're satisfied I'll transfer it to the watercolour paper. Once I have started on paper, I can't make any big changes anymore.
I will take you with me along the way with picture updates. This way you will get to enjoy the painting process together with me! When I'm done painting and have made sure you're absolutely satisfied I will send you another invoice of the remaining 50% plus shipping. Once the payment is done I will make sure the painting will be shipped the best way possible so no harm will come to it.
Pricing
The pricelist below is based on the amount of time and materials I expect to put into the piece. The prices includes the amount of animals stated with a one color plain background. Tax is included in the prices.
Before I start sketching I will send an invoice for 50% of the agreed amount which has to be paid within 7 days. The second payment will take place after you're fully satisfied with the painting. This will be the remaining 50% plus chosen shipping costs. Shipping costs can be found in the chart below.
A different size, more animals or a more detailed background is possible for a surcharge. Contact me for the options.
All paintings will be made on high quality 300 g/m2 acid free watercolour paper. This means the painting won't discolour over time.
Process time
Because of my parttime job, and doing conventions, have as much time to work on this kind of art as I would like. That is why I work with a commission list with a first come, first serve priciple. This means I could either start on your painting the same week, or it could take me a few weeks. I will always notify you about my estimated waiting time before I'll accept the first payment. After I started sketching give me at least 4-6 weeks to finish the painting for shipment. I will always keep you updated on when I think I'll start on every phase.
This is also why I won’t work with deadlines. Please keep that in mind.
Shipping
Shippingcosts, including a small contribution fee for packing materials, are solely for the client (unless otherwise agreed). The risk of dispatch of the artwork lies with the client. I do everything I can to pack the artwork as well and soundly as possible to prevent damage during shipment. I will only ship the work after the second payment (plus shipping costs) has been received by me. Of course it's always possible to collect the artwork from me by appointment.
Imagery
Especially with (animal) portraits, the smallest detail can make the utmost difference. That is why it is important to me that the photo/visual material that I receive, from which I will draw the portrait, meets certain requirements.
Technical requirements
- the photo must be at least 1,024 x 1,024 px or have a minimum file size of 2 MB;
- photos taken with a mobile (recent model) can also be of good quality. When forwarding, make sure that the image is not automatically reduced. To limit data traffic, photos in mail or whatsapp programs are reduced in size, but quality is also lost;
- you must have the rights to the photo that I am going to copy (or: I am not copying a photo that has been randomly taken from the internet). If you want to use a photo taken by another photographer, this photographer must give you explicit permission to use the photo as a reference.
Subject requirements
- the subject should be in focus and well lit – preferably a light source from one side;
- for animal portraits it is very much preferable to photograph the animal at eye level of the animal itself and not from above. So with smaller animals, sit on the floor, squat or kneel and then take the picture. Or put the animal on a platform (for example, small rodents);
- What's in the background of the photo doesn't matter. I can leave it out or give it a completely different interpretation. As long as the subject is nice and sharp.
Terms and rights
Deposit and refunds
When I'll start on your artwork I ask a deposit of 50% of the total price (excl. shipping). You will receive an invoice which has to be paid within 7 days. If you're unsatisfied with the endresult I will keep the deposit as coverage for my made hours and materials. You won't have to pay the second payment of 50%. The artpiece will stay in my ownership and I will be allowed to sell it other people who might be interested. I will never refund on personal projects.
